a)Data in this table were taken from the annual reports of the Bureau of Public Security，which were different from that of permanent
residents．For example：The population in the end of 1999 from the annual reports of the Bureau of Pubfic Security was 83．586 million
persons as well as the permanent residents in the end of 1999 was 85．50 million persons．
